Zürich: a mix of tradition and trendiness

The Old Town
Zürich is ranked second city in the world according to Mercer Quality of Living survey. Although it is also the richest city in Switzerland, it is possible to experience this trendy and cultural metropolis on a small budget.
Go window shopping on Bahnhofstrasse
Wander the streets of the Schipfe District and stop in the Lindenhof park for a scenic view of the lake and mountains. In the Old Town, fountains, bridges and churches compete for most charming. Do not miss the Fraumünster church, with its magnificent stained glass windows by Marc Chagall or the Grossmünster Cathedral - the starting point of the Protestant Reformation. Push the bronze doors by Otto Münch to access the Museum of the Reformation, one of the 50 museums in the city.
A trendy city
Look up for The Guardian Angel by Niki de Saint Phalle in the central station, then walk down the Bahnhofstrasse, an avenue lined with luxury shops. A stop off at the Sprüngli confectionery is a must, in order to taste the house’s signature macaroons called "Luxemburgerli".
Touring the city and its surroundings
The former industrial area Zürich West is resolutely reminiscent of Berlin, with its converted viaduct housing designer boutiques, organic restaurants and art galleries. In August, the city hosts the Street Parade - a giant rave that brings up a million techno enthusiasts.
One can easily browse Zürich on foot and free bicycles are available at the station. Travel on all public transport is included in the price of a Swiss Travel Pass or with the ZürichCARD. For a short stay, choose a day ticket for the zone 110 that will give you access to all transportation (excluding airport) at a lower cost. Do not miss a ride on the lake to admire the city from the water!
