Picturesque and enchanting walks in Lugano and around

Lugano, postcard scenery
Located between lake and mountains, the city of Locano offers stunning scenic views and enchanting walks for nature lovers: an ideal setting for a relaxing weekend without spending too much.
Exploring the surrounding area
To really enjoy the incomparable charms of Lugano, there is nothing better walking. Wander the streets of the old town and admire the San Lorenzo Cathedral, a masterpiece of the Lombard Renaissance, registered and protected as a cultural asset of national importance. Enjoy an authentic Italian espresso while sunbathing on one of the café terraces on Piazza della Riforma, ancient Roman forum. Once refuelled, walk down to the lake, wehre you can stroll along its surroundings and walk into the Ciani park, a green oasis in the heart of the city. The Villa Ciani has regular art shows as well as historical or anthropological exhibitions. In summer, go to the Lido Communale di Lugano. For a modest entry fee you can choose between a swim in the lake or in an Olympic pool. Arm yourself with a little courage and climb up to the summit of Monte Brè. From there, take the footpath that joins the village of Brè and enjoy local art displayed in the village centre, including the works of Pascale Gilardi and Luigi Taddei, among others.
The "Ticino Discovery Card" allow you to travel across Ticino for 3 days and enjoy free access to ski lifts, boat crossings, museums, swimming pools and other tourist attractions. The card can be purchased from tourist information centres, in railway stations or boat ticket offices. Take the opportunity to plan a trip in the surroundings to the fishermen village of Gandria, which clings to the rock, or the city of Melide, which is just as picturesque.
