Lugano, postcard scenery in the heart of Southern Switzerland

An invitation to relaxation
The centre of Lugano promises sumptuous walks with Mediterranean accents, in the heart of exceptional natural beauty. Strolling through the picturesque old town, savour the sweetness of life in this city with a rich artistic heritage.
Exploring the city and its surroundings
With 130,000 inhabitants, Lugano is the largest city of Italian Switzerland. Located between the lake and the mountains, it offers stunning vistas and enchanting walks for nature lovers. Walk along the lake promenade, dubbed "Lungolago " that leads to the neighbouring city of Paradiso and enjoy the blossoming of camellias, magnolias and other subtropical plants in Ciani Park, among which are hidden some modern art works. In summer, go to the Lido Communale di Lugano, where you can choose between a swim in the lake or in an Olympic swimming pool or even a nap on the sand or on a deck.
A fun way to explore the city is to register for the Fox Trail, a treasure hunt that will lead you for two hours or so through the most picturesque corners of the city and allow you to enjoy its main attractions. Also plan a trip to the quaint nearby fishing village of Gandria. Not far from there, the city of Melide houses “Swissminiatur”, an open air museum where you can admire small scale models of the most important buildings in Switzerland and the typical Swiss public transport. Just 5.6 miles from Lugano, enjoy a gourmet visit to the city of Caslano, hosting the Alprose Chocolate Museum. You will be guided through the different steps in the art of making chocolate and learn all about the history of chocolate, from its origins to modern means of production.
