Dubai Stopover – See more of the World for less

Dubai Stopover – See more of the World for less

With the world becoming a smaller place and long-haul flights getting more popular amongst regular travelers, one might see connecting flights and stopovers as inconvenient. But why not make the most of your next layover by making a holiday out of it? Stopovers are a great way to see and explore a new city without having to spend a lot of extra money, and many times, even saving on costs!

Dubai is an ideal destination for an affordable stopover. Located at the heart of many airline routes across the world, Dubai is a bustling oasis of commerce, retail and family attractions. Whether you are flying directly to the city or simply transiting, Dubai has something to offer for everyone.
Before you fly
Before you book your flights, play around with dates and flight timings. If the airline is offering you a stopover in Dubai, try changing your dates around to catch the same connecting flight a few days later and many times it can even work out cheaper! Traveling mid-week on Tuesdays or Wednesdays usually gives you the cheapest flight and hotel rates. Don’t forget to check with your credit card company and airlines to see if they are partnered with any lounges at the airport so you can make use of the free facilities available on-site. Dubai International Airport also has complimentary shower facilities on-site, make sure to check which gates and terminals they are located in.
Things to do
"Dubai offers plenty of sights to see and things to do on a stopover. Away from the glitz and glamour of what Dubai is internationally known for, there are plenty of cheap attractions and budget friendly activities so you can still explore the city while saving on costs. Transport in Dubai is relatively cheap and convenient when compared to other major metropolitan cities of the world. Taxis are available everywhere and you can easily find one outside the airport or even rent a car to drive yourself around. Metro links span across the city and cover most of the important tourist attractions. Spend a few hours at the Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world, where you can walk into the largest candy store in the world as well as see the Burj Khalifa - the largest building in the world. The Dubai Fountains just outside Dubai Mall offer a fantastic display of dancing waterworks all through the evening. For some authentic Arabian culture, a quick trip to Deira Souq is highly recommended. Walk down alleys of stores displaying aromatic spices and traditional jewellery, handicrafts, carpets and more. Haggling is encouraged and you might just be able to strike a good deal on souvenirs to take back home!"
There are plenty of free things to do in Dubai throughout the year. All public beaches are open to all, and offer fun-filled activities for the whole family. For some tradition and education on Middle East culture, some of the large mosques in the city let tourists in at no cost and are happy to show you around. For just 1 Dirham, you can take a boat ride across the Deira creek on a traditional Abra and spent time taking in the sights and sounds of Old Dubai.
