The Ghent Festival is the most famous of Ghent's festivities, perhaps of Belgium and even Europe! It is in fact mentioned in the same breathe as Valencia’s Las Fallas and Oktoberfest in Munich. High expectations are nothing to worry about because this festival is sure to blow you away! During the 10-day celebration that starts in July, the city transforms into an artistic hub with numerous party spots. Visitors are pleasantly exposed to music, stage performances and sketches by street artists from all over Belgium and the world. So tip them well, they may need it for their journey home! What makes the Ghent Festival special are the several festivals that take place during the event, each specialising in its own particular art form. Looking to familiarise yourself with the jazz scene? Then Jazz in the Park is an excellent choice. This is where both jazz novices and veterans come to enjoy the rich jazzy sounds performed by Belgian artists. From accessible jazz funk to the more complex sub-genres. The annual festival takes place from the first week of September and is free to visit!

Film Fest Ghent in October

Let the festivities continue! Being the centre of Belgian amiability, Ghent organises several events throughout the year. Take the Film Fest Ghent in mid-October for example where you can see several quality films presented on the big screen. During the Film Fest there is a special focus on the soundtracks and composers of the films, with their own price: the World Soundtrack Awards!

The Ghent Winter Festival from December to January

Visiting Ghent during the Christmas season is also guaranteed excitement! Towards the end of the year the city reshuffles into a winter wonderland when the Ghent Winter Festival takes place.
