Cheap holidays in Lyon: discovery after discovery in every district

On the heights of Fourvière hill
Your cheap holidays in Lyon will take you from the most ancient districts such as Fourvière to the most contemporary like Confluence. Between the banks of the Saône and the Rhone, your ibis hotel is close to Perrache railway station and mere streets away from Place Bellecour. Other ibis hotels can welcome you in La Part-Dieu district and the city centre, both of which are good destinations for getting to transport and conveniences.
See old Lyon
This is the most ancient district in the city, as the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Lugdunum uncovered there attest. These include two ancient theatres. The top of the hill is accessible on foot or by funicular railway. It offers magnificent views over Lyon, the slopes of Croix-Rousse and even the Alps. And finally, don’t miss Notre-Dame de Fourvière basilica, which is easily recognisable for its four corner turrets and the gilded statue of the Virgin Mary standing at its peak.
Modernity in Confluence
Old Lyon is another unmissable stop during your cheap holidays. You will certainly be impressed with its well-preserved décor and traboules, little walkways which run from building to building. Start your walk in front of Saint-Jean cathedral. It has a rose windows and one of Europe’s oldest astronomical clocks. Afterwards, get wrapped up in the district’s lively atmosphere and enjoy a meal in one of Lyon’s famous bouchon restaurants.
Relaxation in the Parc de la Tête d’Or
To the south of Lyon’s peninsula, discover the city’s most modern area in the new Confluence district. On the banks of the Saône and Rhone, its buildings have a decidedly modern design. This included the Cube Orange and Musée des Confluences, which is dedicated to the history of science and cultures.
During your stay in Lyon, wander the 105 hectares of greenery at the Parc de la Tête d'Or with its lake, zoo and botanical garden. It’s also home to the ‘queen of flowers’, the rose – in fact the rose garden has 350 varieties.
