9 Reasons Adelaide Is the (surprise) Best City in Australia

South Australia’s capital city has a reputation for being a bit of a snooze fest, but there’s more to this sleepy city than meets the eye! Here are 9 top reasons why you should give #Radelaide a go.

1. BARS AND MUSIC
FACT: Adelaide has more bars per capita than any other Aussie city. There may not be a lot of people about, but that’s because they’re all in the pub. For a legendary night, try the Exeter Hotel’s Wednesday curry night, with live music and a chilled atmosphere, it’s a great spot to chill when the day’s out. Peel St is also a top spot for some cool boutique bars if you’re dressing up.
2. 70KM OF BEACHES
Adelaide is a beach bum’s paradise, and unlike Sydney, you’re guaranteed to get a towel spot. The most popular local sand is Glenelg – just hop on the tram from the city and you’ll be there in 25.
3. MURRAY RIVER HANGS
Another spot to check out is the Murray River. Drive 1 hour from the city for a bunch of water sports on Australia’s longest river, or hire a boat and grab some BBQ grub for a chill day on the water.
4. Weather
You can almost guarantee sunshine on a visit to Adelaide. It’s got the perfectly warm summers and mild winters, so whenever you make it to Radelaide don’t forget your sunnies!
5. CHEAP BEER
Need we say more? Get packing immediately! In Adelaide it’s much cheaper to buy top brews compared to some other east coast cities, so get to one of the many breweries, pubs and bars for a schooner, pint or, if you like your beer jumbo sized grab an imperial pint (570ml)!
6. LAID BACK LOCALS
Adelaide locals know how to relax. Escape the crazy of your hometown and go with the SA flow where everything is chill – everything that is except the weather!
7. FESTIVALS
The Adelaide Fringe Festival is jam packed with arts events. Think comedy, cabaret, and a whole host of music and performing acts. With bars and food vans galore, you’ll have your fill at this fest. WOMADelaide is an extravaganza of Music, Arts and Dance and another fest to add to the list of must-do-once list. It’s part of the annual Adelaide Festival and is certainly worth hitting up if you’re in town. This fest is also sponsored by Coopers and Hills Cider – bonus! Just one more festival shout out goes to the Adelaide Guitar Festival. Modelled on its new New York cousin and kicking off in August, check the line-up to see if your faves will be performing and grab tickets online.
8. FREE BIKE HIRE
Most of the good spots around Adelaide are within 20 minutes by bike, so grabbing a free one from Bike SA is a great way to get to know your way around. There are loads of trails to explore, or ride your own way and find all the local hangouts as you go. The only condition is that hire is during daylight hours.
9. BIG CITY IDEAS WITH A SMALL TOWN FEEL
Adelaide is a city with a small town feel, but there’s a lot going on under the hood. With cheap beers, great beaches and a free way to get about, Adelaide is a good option if you’re looking for a great value weekender with a bunch of mates.
